A special one-hour trading session held on the evening of Diwali, which marks the start of a new Samvat year in the Hindu calendar. The session is short, so its change is measured from the previous close.
Does the market move the same way on every Budget day?
No. The table lists every Budget day we hold since 1 Jan 2021 with its own result. A handful of dated events is too few to show a pattern, and each day also carried other news.

How to read this page

"Change on the day" is the Nifty 50's close against the previous close, as published by NSE. "Next session" and "Next 5 sessions" compare the close on the event day with the close one and five trading sessions later.

The Budget has been presented on weekends too, when the exchanges opened for a special session, and the Muhurat session is a single evening hour. The Samvat years on the Samvat page run from one Muhurat session to the next.
